The Press

Evariste Publishing

Evariste Publishing is an independent press committed to literary fiction and non-fiction of lasting quality. We believe in books that reward slow reading — stories and ideas with the patience to unfold on their own terms.

Our catalogue is deliberately small. Every title we publish is one we believe in, and every author we work with shares a commitment to writing that is honest, considered, and built to endure.

Marshall Gudwin

Marshall
Gudwin

Novelist · Distance Runner · Ski Mountaineer

Marshall Gudwin lives in the West Chilcotin region of British Columbia, Canada — a landscape defined by distance, silence, and the kind of space that asks something of you. He values solitude and the wilderness, and his writing reflects both.

His passions are writing, distance running, and ski mountaineering. These are not separate pursuits. They share a common logic: the sustained effort, the reckoning with difficult terrain, the discovery of what you are made of when comfort is no longer an option.

Canyon Marathon, his debut novel, draws on that understanding. Set against the upheaval of 1968 Berkeley, it follows a young man from a British Columbia reservation who finds in running a language for truths he has no other way to speak.
